Good Samaritan drives stranded woman in labor to hospital

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — It’s difficult to imagine a worse time for your car to break down than when your fiancé is in labor.

It happened to David Robinson and his fiancé Sherry Stubbs Friday morning.

“We were coming down Lakeshore, and it started stalling,” Robinson said, “So I tried to pull over.”

The sign for Brookwood Medical Center was in sight, but the SUV was not moving.

“I’m like, ‘Oh, my God,’ I just needed some help,” Sherri Stubbs said.

Help  came within minutes, but not from the logical source.

“My fiancé did call the paramedics,” Stubbs said, “But in between time, they didn’t know which way to go. They were talking about eastbound, westbound, and I needed help so I rode with that lady to Brookwood. She dropped me off. She was very nice.”

That “lady” was a complete stranger, a Good Samaritan who pulled over when she saw a woman bending over in pain.

“I hope they’re still up there so I can at least thank them,” Robinson said, “But I don’t know. I’m still stuck here.”

We had plenty of room in our CBS 42 News car, so Robinson hopped in and we drove to the hospital. We missed the birth by minutes, but Robinson was thrilled to see his perfectly healthy new baby boy.

Family members arrived shortly after, except for Stubb’s father who passed away recently.

Stubb’s niece, Keriyanna, misses him dearly.

“I honestly believe that my granddad sent that lady to help by auntie on the side of the road this morning,” Keriyanna said. “Because there were so many people who could have helped her but they decided not to, so God touched her heart and sent her.”

The Good Samaritan didn’t wait for any thanks or rewards.

“I really appreciate her,” Stubbs said, “And I’m so grateful for her.”

But the Stubbs family will be reminded of what she did for them every time they hold their 7lb 140z. miracle.
