ARIZONA (WIAT) – Bianca Milton didn’t have a ton of time to react.
With a fire in her apartment in Arizona, flames blocking her escape and two children to think about, Milton did the only thing she could.
She tossed her kids from the second story window, trusting neighbors on the ground to catch them.
“No words could describe it. It was just a mother’s choice. It’s something I had to do,” Milton said.
The smell of smoke woke Milton in the middle of the night on Wednesday.
After waking her three and six-year-old children, she ran to the front door. It was there, though, that she encountered a problem. The front door was also engulfed in flames.
She then ran to a window and began screaming. Her cries for help got the attention of some of her neighbors.
They didn’t see any other option.
Milton did as Justin Rose, one of her neighbors, suggested. She trusted him to catch her children.
Rose kept his promise, catching both children after they were tossed out of the window.
She then had to make another leap of faith.
Milton stepped up and jumped out of the window herself.
Rose was able to break her fall, leaving Milton with only a mere scrape on her knee.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
