BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) –The 4th of July usually brings many people out to the water who may have never boated after dark before.
Boating after sundown comes with some special rules.
Every boat is required to have red, green and white lights installed to help them legally maneuver the lake after dark.
This allows boaters to see each other and know which direction they’re going.
Other colored lighting can blind oncoming traffic.
Alabama Marine Police Officer John Williams says it’s a good idea to keep extra bulbs, fuses and chemical glow sticks on board as well.
