BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) To the unsuspecting driver, the bumps on Green Springs Highway between Valley Avenue and the I-65 interchange at Green Springs Avenue can give you quite a jolt.
“It’s crazy. You can’t have speed bumps in the middle of the road,” complains Daren Elms.
Those bumps are actually defects in the road which have gotten worse over time. They just look like speed bumps.
With no signs to warn drivers, it’s a recipe for trouble damaging shocks and vehicle alignments.
Eddie Richardson owns Blueprint Barbers on Green Springs. When we talked to him last week, he said the problem needed to be fixed as soon as possible. He had seen a number of accidents on the road as drivers slowed down for the bumps and were rear ended.
In Your Corner contacted Brian Davis with the state Department of Transportation. It is the state’s responsibility to maintain the highway. Tuesday crews were out working to grind down those bumps, patching and smoothing out the roadway. It was welcome relief for thousands who work and commute along this route.
