National Guard marches at ‘Dega

TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY – (WIAT)  Nearly 100 Army National Guard officer candidates spent a little time Wednesday evening at Talladega SuperSpeedway.  They weren’t driving around the famous asphalt, there were marching around it.

Crossing the finish line meant the end of a mandatory seven mile hike.  The candidates will spend a total of 57 days at Fort McClellan in Anniston learning how to become officers.  Instructors say the candidates are kept in almost continual stress to see how they react to crisis.

Wednesday’s hike is just one of the physical stepping stones to becoming an officer.  Before Officer Candidate School is over they still have finish a 10 mile hike through rough terrain – complete with a 35 pound pack.
