MIAMI, Fla. (WIAT) The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida have named the third tropical storm this season. Chantal became a Tropical storm at 10:00 pm CDT Sunday night. Chantal was located 850 miles from the island of Barbados and is racing west-northwestward toward the lesser Antilles. Forecast model spreads and the NHC forecast have the system traveling west and turning away from the Gulf of Mexico and headed toward the Bahamas. Dry air will help shred the storm apart along with landfall in the Dominican Republic by Friday. The storm is expected to weaken into a Tropical Depression by 8pm Friday night.
