BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Most doctors agree that breastfeeding is best for a newborn.
However, breastfeeding isn’t easy for many mothers.
Scientists say mammary glands are sensitive to insulin, the hormone that regulates the amount of glucose in the blood.
That means mothers who are diabetic, overweight or have large birth-weight babies often run into problems regulating the body’s insulin.
That could end up delaying milk production.
Clinical trials are underway, but doctors say diet and exercise are more effective than any drug.
