BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – As the City of Birmingham commemorates the 50-year anniversary of the Civil Rights movement, it’s also remembering one of the men who played a pivotal role during that time.
On Tuesday, the president of the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club presented copies of Green Power: The Successful Way of Dr. A.G. Gaston to the Birmingham City Council.
The grandson of a slave, Gaston went on to become one of the most successful African-American businessmen in Alabama.
He published his autobiography in 1968.
Forty-five years later, the book is still being used in many classrooms.
