Consuming solid food too early or too late increases babies risk of diabetes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Researchers wanted to know if how soon a baby eats solid food has any impact on their overall health.

As it turns out, babies who start on solid foods too early or too late may be at higher risk for type 1 diabetes.

Researchers at the University of Colorado found an increased risk when solids are introduced to babies younger than four months or older than six months.

They say the safest window appears to be between four and five months, while the baby is still being breastfed.
