BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Muslim holy month of Ramadan began on Monday.
Local Muslims are inviting people of all faiths to learn about their beliefs and culture.
Ashfaq Taufique, with the Birmingham Islamic Society, says Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and conduct special prayer ceremonies during Ramadan.
They are also extending invitations to anyone who wants to learn more about Islam.
Visitors can make arrangements to visit area Masjid’s during July learn about the Muslim culture and break bread with local Muslims. The visits start around sunset each day.
“All in all, people leave our place with a better understanding about us,” Taufique said. “So we try to neutralize some of the things they may hear that they may not understand.”
