BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – CBS42 has been following the making of a monument to the four girls killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.
Sculptor Elizabeth MacQueen has completed a critical stage of work on the final figure.
Macqueen and her team have finished clay, mold and waxing work on statues of Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley, Denise McNair and Addie Mae Collins.
The finished bronze sculpture will be placed at the entrance of Kelly Ingram Park in September.
MacQueen won a contest by Four Spirits Incorporated, a committee organized with the goal of placing a fitting memorial in the city to honor the lives of the girls.
