BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: According to the Bessemer Police Department, two arrests have been made in the case, but police expect more arrests to be made.
One of the suspects arrested is an adult male and the other is a female juvenile.
Charges are currently pending.
ORIGINAL: Police in Bessemer have launched an investigation into two armed robberies that took place on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to a release from the Bessemer Police Department, two armed robberies occurred at two service stations between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
The robberies happened within just a few miles of each other, and police believe the suspects appear to be the same male and female.
Around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, a black male and female robbed the night cashier of the Chevron located at 1228 18th Street North.
The male suspect is said to be between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He is described as having a skinny build.
The man was seen wearing a red baseball hat, a dark long sleeve shirt and black pants. He reportedly struck the cashier of the service station several times during the robbery.
The female suspect was wearing glasses and had an afro, which might have been a wig, and is said to be between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall. She also had on a dark green short sleeve shirt and white basketball shorts.
The next day, suspects who fit the same description robbed the night cashier at the Kangaroo Express located at 830 9th Avenue North. During the robbery, the suspects used a small caliber rifle.
The suspects in both cases arrived on foot and fled on foot, but detectives familiar with the investigation believe a third party operating a getaway car may have been involved.
