UPDATE: Birmingham nurse abducted from hospital parking lot Saturday night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)- A scary reminder why it’s important to travel in groups whenever possible- even if you feel it’s safe leaving your job. A local nurse went through a terrifying ordeal Saturday, July 13th.

She was abducted by an armed man as she walked to her car in the parking lot of Princeton Baptist Medical Center around 6:45 P.M. She was forced to drive her vehicle to ATM’s around the city and withdraw money. After several hours, she was dropped off in Avondale unharmed. In a statement from the Birmingham Police Department, authorities say this was an isolated incident. Still, neighbors who live by the hospital say the situation has them on edge.

Princeton Hospital released a statement saying that the nurse is resting comfortably at home. The release also highlights that the hospital has round the clock security cameras and escorts available to patients and staff members at all times. The hospital says it anticipates more people will be using those security escorts now, so they will increase staff. Police do have a 30-year-old man in custody. The suspect has not been charged.

If anyone has information to help detectives with this investigation, they are asked to call the Birmingham Police Department at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
