TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – The Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide unit made an arrest on Monday in connection with a shooting that took place on Friday evening.
Kendrick Lakeith Hyche, 23, was taken into custody around 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
According to a release from the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit, physical evidence and information from witnesses led to the apprehension of Hyche.
He is charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of assault and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied building.
“Today, the homicide unit received information concerning the incident involving the shooting of a little 4-year-old girl. We were able to locate a person we had been trying to locate to talk to, and after talking with him and talking with witnesses and processing some evidence that we collected, enough information was collected and we were able to determine that we had enough to obtain an arrest warrant on a 23-year-old male,” said Sgt. Dale Phillips with the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit. “It appears that his target is a young man that lives at that residence that was not there at the time. But our information tells us that he was the target of this act and we have known from the start that there has been some ongoing feuding between these two groups.”
Sgt. Phillips says the investigation is ongoing and further arrests may be made.
“We anticipate that the investigation will continue,” he said. “We feel that there was another person involved. We know who that person is. That person knows that we know. And we hope that we are able to bring some more resolution to this.”
On Friday evening, at around 10 p.m., police received information about a shooting.
Upon arrival, authorities found a 4-year-old girl who had been shot twice while she was asleep in her home.
She was transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
Hyche is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $120,000 bond.
