FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) – The Fairfield City School System celebrated a new milestone on Monday.
The district held three groundbreaking ceremonies for a $13 million building and renovation project for schools across the district.
Fairfield High School is one of the schools expanding.
Superintendent Walter Gousulin says about 44,000 square feet will be added to the school.
That expansion will include a fine arts auditorium and a center for athletes.
He says it’s a project that is needed and well-deserved for the students, staff and community.
“It makes me feel great. We put a team together last year, and we did a comprehensive study and said what we wanted to do based on the needs of the district,” Gousulin said. “To see all of these things materialize in just one short year tells us that we’re on the right track.”
Other additions to schools in the district include wireless classrooms, distance learning labs and new digital equipment.
