BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)- Four years and three national championships have left Alabama fans with a lot of heart-warming memories. If you think the success under head coach Nick Saban has tapered off excitement for the 2013 season, think again. “I’ve been a fan for so long, I get excited for every season,” said Mike Green, shopping at Bama Fever in the Galleria. “I can’t wait until this season gets started.”
Those memories hit hard in other areas, however, namely the wallet. If you traveled to each of the three BCS Championship games, you traversed around 3,100 miles. Those miles aren’t cheap. When you factor in all the trips to Tuscaloosa and away games during the regular season, it can be a small fortune. All Seasons Travel offers several “Travelin’ With the Tide” packages, but they’re having a tough time booking for this season. “In the past people have spent so much money on previous seasons, when Alabama has been so good,” said “Travelin’ With the Tide” coordinator Hope Sasser. “I think it’s reached a point where they say, “Ok where do we stop?’
Dave Folk has traveled to Pasadena, New Orleans, and Miami to watch the Tide bring home the crystal trophy, but this year might take some planning. “Before it was something where you could pass it off as that once in a lifetime opportunity,” he said. “Now it’s like, ok I have to save up to get a [game] ticket, I have to save up to get a plane ticket, and hotel accommodations.”
If you can’t make it to the away games, never fear! CBS42 is once again the home to the CBS SEC Game of the Week.
