Gardendale, AL (WIAT)-Hoover, the defending 6A state champions are in reload mode in many of their primary positions including quarterback, receiver, and in the secondary.
Coming off a perfect 15-0 season, the Bucs understand that complacency will be a battle and that they can’t look in the rear view mirror.
“At Hoover you are always held to a standard,” said Hoover linebacker Chandler Coskery. ”Last year we won the state championship. It’s awesome to celebrate but right when winter workouts start you go right back to the grind. Once the season starts we are focused on each and every game that comes up in the next week and we are held to a standard at Hoover where everybody expects us to be the best.”
Josh Niblett enters his 6th season as head coach for Hoover with only six loses on his record.
“I think you want to be in a program where everybody circles you on the schedule,” said Niblett. “The one thing we don’t do from our standpoint, we don’t circle one team on the schedule. We circle them all. We know we are going to get everybody’s A-game and I think it’s a responsibility that you have to take on. It’s an ownership you have every week that when you prepare. It’s about us and we’ve always made it about us. So how we prepare, how we work out, how we do things off the field is about us. It’s not about the other team because when you start worrying about them you got to hope that they make a mistake on Friday night to give you a chance to win.”
