BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — This summer a special camp specifically for children suffering from type 1 diabetes is held.
Camp Sugar Falls brings kids together and offers activities like hula hooping.
The kids also learned how to deal with their disease during the camp.
“We work every day to teach them independence with checking their blood sugars, doing their shots, using their insulin pumps, carb counting, the tools they need to be successful in everyday life as a type 1 diabetic, ” said Day Camp Director Krissie Wray.
The camper’s age ranges from five to 15.
Camp Sugar Falls encourages the kids to bring siblings and friends with them to learn what it’s like to live with type 1 diabetes.
