BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – In February, three men set out on the journey of a lifetime.
They set out to raise money for a rare disease. They did so by running across the country raising $103,000.
“What we wanted to do was pretty much be the most unique billboard actually running across the country from sea to sea, at five miles an hour, and really bring in this message to everyone across the country that we need more funding, we need more awareness for this forgotten cancer,” said Landon Cooper with Miles 2 Give.
The forgotten cancer Cooper wanted to raise awareness for is sarcoma.
The cancer develops in bones and soft tissues in the body.
After Cooper lost his best friend to the disease, he was motivated to create the Miles 2 Give foundation.
Their first fundraising tour took them 3,187 miles from California to Maryland.
Now, he’s back in Alabama and is letting the youngest cancer patients that he’s not giving up.
In fact, he’s already planning his next tour.
A wrap party for the tour is being held on Thursday evening in Pelham at Shelby’s Restaurant. It runs until 11 p.m.
