UPDATE: According to Birmingham police,
the Hispanic driver was hauling furniture from Miramar, Florida and was pulled out of the vehicle by good Samaritans. On the scene he argued with Spanish speaking officers and was eventually released to another truck driver on location.

Authorities on the scene believe the driver may have been allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance.

The driver had no ID on him at the scene.

UPDATE: The Jefferson County EMA reports that the diesel fuel that spilled was confined to the area. There are no hazardous conditions.

With the fire out and the spill contained, east and west bound lanes are being reopened over the next half hour. Expect continued delays for about another hour before traffic is back to normal.
