Children of parents who smoke are more likely to also smoke

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A new study released by the journal Pediatrics indicates children whose parents or older siblings smoke are more likely to take up smoking themselves.

Researchers say about a third of children who grow up with smokers ended up smoking in the last year.

Of the children with non-smoking parents, only 8 percent say they’ve recently smoked a cigarette.
