Jasper holds first ever National Night Out

JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) – Jasper participated in its first ever National Night Out.

The Jasper Police Department held the town’s inaugural program at the Percy Goode Gym from 2 to 6 Tuesday.

The event was free and open to all jasper residents.

Sergeant Jeremy Owens says they spent three months putting the festivities together.

The goal is designed to strengthen community ties between residents and law enforcement, as well as other city leaders

“A lot of kids think we’re just there to put people in jail we’re not only here for that. If a child or adult needs help they need to know they can come to us, we are a public servant we’re here to work for them,” Owens says.

Kids had a blast jumping on inflatables.

McGruff the crime dog also made an appearance.
