BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – It may not be the first thought that comes to mind when examining Twitter posts, but many tweets can say a lot about a person’s happiness.
Researchers at the University of Vermont used Twitter posts to rank cities and states by the positive and negative words used in tweets.
Based on the data they compiled, Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, Delaware and Georgia are the five saddest states.
Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Utah and Vermont were found to be the happiest states.
Alabama ranked 46th on the list, meaning the state is not very happy when it comes to Twitter posts.
The data showed Napa, California, is the happiest city in the nation. Beaumont, Texas, is the saddest.
Montgomery and Dothan both tallied one of the lowest rankings for the word “happiness.”
