BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Update X2: Stephanie Wilson’s three children called their aunt Friday night when their mother didn’t come back to their Center Point home. Family members were worried. They say it’s not like Stephanie to stay away from her children overnight.
They tracked her cell phone signal all the way to Linn Park in Birmingham, 13 miles away from home. A male voice answered the phone then hung up abruptly.
Saturday morning, family members reported Stephanie missing to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Stephanie’s car was found in a government housing project in Gate City.
Her body was found behind Crestway Baptist Church in Crestwood Sunday.
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting the death investigation. Sgt. Johnny Williams said the body had no physical injuries and a drug overdose could be the cause.
Sgt. Williams said we will not know the official cause of death until the toxicology report is complete.
Stephanie’s children, ages 17, 15 and 11, are staying with their aunt for now. They will start school soon without their mother.
