BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Avondale community was dealt a major blow Tuesday.
The Birmingham City Council voted not to pay for $350,000 worth of sewer repairs in the area.
The repairs would help with drainage during rains, which would in turn alleviate flooding problems that have been a big issue in the area this summer.
Earlier in the summer, high waters damaged businesses and vehicles in the area.
Since then, the city has been working with Alabama & Tennessee River Railway to clean out the ditches in the area.
