Former DHR case worker arrested in Shelby County

COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WIAT) – The Alabaster Police Department announced the arrest of Brandon Howard Daniel in connection with the investigation.

Daniel, 29, was arrested and charged with soliciting for purpose of influencing official action, indecent exposure, harassment and theft of property.

He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $40,000 bond.

COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) - A Shelby County welfare worker is in custody and police are searching the agency’s county office following the report of a sex crime.

Police say a sexual offense was reported Wednesday at a home in Alabaster. The alleged victim is a client of the Shelby County Department of Human Resources.

That report led to a search Thursday at the county Human Resources office in Columbiana, about 17 miles away.

Alabaster Police Chief Curtis Rigney says officers are looking for possible evidence at the building.

Authorities haven’t released the name of the male worker who is in custody, but Rigney says charges are possible later.
