UPS returns items previous believed as lost to Freeset USA

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama-based nonprofit, Freeset, has been concerned about its future operations after the organization’s entire fall inventory went down with the UPS cargo plane that crashed on its approach to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Instead of panicking, though, Freeset USA organizers began screen printing t-shirts to raise money for the families of the two pilots killed in the crash.

Then, a good while after the crash, something amazing happened for the nonprofit.

UPS delivered hundreds of their items, which are bags made in India by victims of human trafficking. Somehow, the bags survived the crash.

Freest USA is still checking and counting the recovered bags to determine what is sellable.

The retail value of their shipment totaled more than $150,000.
