Manhunt underway for robbery suspect in Leeds

LEEDS, Ala. (WIAT) –  UPDATE: According to the Leeds Police Department, the suspect has been identified as Rontese Lavelle Miller of Birmingham.

He is wanted on a warrant for first-degree robbery.

The department considers Miller to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Miller are asked to call the law enforcement agency or the Leeds Police Department at (205) 699-0921.

ORIGINAL: A manhunt is underway in Leeds for a suspect in a robbery, according to Leeds Police Chief Byron Jackson.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department, Trussville Police Department and Leeds Police Department are on the scene helping search for the suspect.

According to Chief Jackson, the suspect robbed Cash America in Leeds. Units then picked up the suspect when he was involved in a traffic accident on Edwards Lake Road.

The suspect then fled from the scene and ran into the woods behind a Staples and Lowes in the area.

Police are currently looking for the suspect near the interstate. Authorities are currently pursuing reports of a man running across Interstate 459.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a plaid and white t-shirt. He is said to be armed with a handgun.
