BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)- Today was a real sog-fest for some pee-wee and junior football players.
Yashica Wilson, a mother of one of the children says, “We drive up and it was just crazy out here.”
You could call it a leak…More like a geyser had erupted at Roosevelt Park.
“It was about a hundred feet high when it was at its maximum and its dangerous….We saw dirt and bricks popping out,” said Wilson.
That was early in the morning. Eight hours later, the water main break was still going strong. The park now has a river running through it – much to the delight of nieghborhood kids who frolick in the runoff on a hot august day. The field…That’s another story. Slick, slippery and squshy as children run plays in the shaddows of the geyser.
“We’ve been waiting on this all day long…We had to forfeit a game and we had to pay for it you know and its ridiculous,” said Wilson.
“We made several calls to the Birmingham water board to get this stopped…Its two o’clock now and …Well what can you say,” said Wilson.
The water was finally stopped late this evening.
