BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A materials fire has resulted in 40-50 junk cars catching on fire at Steel City Recycling in Birmingham, according to Birmingham Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis.

Mardis says workers at the site were in the process of shredding junk cars when a spark ignited one car. Eventually, the flames spread to other cars.

The fire is under control and there are no reported injuries.
