Walker County paramedics using new heart monitor tool

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers in Walker County now have a new heart monitoring tool at their disposal.

The Regional Paramedical Services (RPS) has 40 new Zoll X-Series heart monitors. They monitor heart rates to paramedics in real time as they perform CPR.

The new monitors also transmit the patient’s heart issues to the hospital with only a 10-second delay.

With that data, the hospital can prepare to treat the issues before the patient even arrives.

RPS makes about 200 calls a day, and 20 percent of the cases are typically cardiac related.
