Auburn, AL (WIAT)-Auburn opens their SEC schedule once again against Mississippi State a team they have defeated 4 of the last 5 years. The Tigers are in hot pursuit of their first league win since October 29, 2011.
That was against Ole Miss 2 years ago.
There was no hesitation from Jonathon Mincy when asked if he remembered when Auburn won their last conference game. This team is certainly anxious to turn the page and realizes the implications of setting the tempo in league play.
“These are the games that really count,” said Auburn running back Tre Mason. ”You know these are SEC games and as I said they determine if we are going to go to the SEC championship and how far we are going to go this season.”
Mincy added, “It gets more aggressive. It’s going to be a lot more running plays, just dealing with every team in the SEC. Ever team just about has an outstanding back so that is important going into the game, just locking in on the back and making sure that we control the game from the defensive standpoint.”
Auburn’s running back trio, Corey Grant, Cameron Artis-Payne, and Tre Mason and have combined for 512 yards rushing this season.
“We are looking forward to being the best backs in college football,” said Mason. ”We have high goals and aspirations so we are going to do what we can to reach those goals and win games.”
Finding a good nickname though is still up for debate.
“Nick Marshall had said something about a three-headed monster or something,” said Mason.
Auburn kicks off against Mississippi State at 6 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
