Founder of The Birmingham Times honored on Thursday night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Whether it was broadcast or print, journalists documented the civil rights movement during the 1960s. On Thursday night, a special honor was given for a member of the press in Alabama during that crucial time in United States history.

Dr. Jesse Lewis Sr., who is the founder of The Birmingham Times, was honored at Alabama Power.

Former network anchor Ted Koppel interviewed Lewis on stage about his life, his legacy and the unbreakable will to succeed.
