Blue Moose Café makes deadline to serve craft beer

CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) – Not only did the Blue Moose Café make its deadline in order to serve craft brewed beer for Cullman’s Oktoberfest, it came within days getting caught in the red-tape nightmare of a federal government shutdown.

Brewmaster Mike Mullaney and owner Jacob Wood hope Oktoberfest visitors embrace their creation – one that hasn’t been seen in Cullman since the late 1800s.

“Craft beer in Alabama, right now and over the last three years, is just growing,” Mullaney said.

Brewing beer is a time consuming process that takes 4-6 weeks to prepare just one batch.

People have been asking for bold, fresh flavors that can only be attained on site.

Scott Smothers, a customer at the café, says he’s ready for the pint.

“It’s going to be a good thing. It’s going to be really nice craft brewed beer,” said Smothers.

For now, the catch is that the Blue Moose Café is just getting its permits approved. It’s only allowed to have 25 gallons on tap for the entire week.
