Body of missing 66-year-old found in ditch

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The body of a woman missing since Friday was found in a ditch by a family member on Monday.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Lula Hazzard Skines, 66, was found in a ditch at Winchester Hills Drive and Sweeny Hollow Road.

Skines, who suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s, was reported missing around 9 p.m. on Friday.

Her daughter told deputies that she left Skanes at home around 3:30 p.m. When she returned home Friday evening, Skanes was nowhere inside the home.

Her cause of death has not yet been determined.
