Warming stations opening across area

Boutwell

Jefferson County EMA is urging all citizens stranded on the roadways tonight as a result of the winter weather conditions to go to one of the following locations for safety and warmth.  These facilities are serving as shelters or warming stations for the night.

Boutwell Auditorium‘s warming station hours have been extended due to the extreme cold.  The Warming Station at Boutwell Auditorium will open at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday and will remain open throughout the days until Thursday morning. Donations of bottled water, quart size Ziploc bags, chapstick, blankets, scarves and gloves are all welcome.

The YMCA of Greater Birmingham has opened emergency warming stations until 6pm Tuesday for stranded motorists at these locations: Alabaster, Pelham, Hoover, Shades Valley (Homewood), Vestavia, Mountain Brook and Greystone (280).

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Mountain Brook is opening as a temporary shelter for motorists stranded in that area. Citizens are welcome to come to the auditorium to warm up and catch up on the latest news on road closings and other weather related happenings.

First United Presbyterian Church of Forestdale will open Tuesday as a warming station.

Greenbrier Baptist Church of Anniston will open Tuesday at 5pm until Thursday at 8am. Cots and blankets will be available.

Trussville City Hall and Trussville Civic Center open as warming centers. Plus the First Baptist Church of Trussville, 128 Chalkville Road, as well.

The City of Hoover has opened these locations for rest and warmth:

  • Hoover Recreation Center, 600 Municipal Drive
  • Hoover City Hall, 100 Municipal Drive
  • Greystone Elementary School, 300 Village Street
  • Spain Park High School, 4700 Jaguar Drive
  • Hoover Recreation Center – 600 Municipal Lane, Hoover
  • Hoover Public Safety Center Court Room, 2020 Valleydale Road
  • ALL Hoover Fire Stations

The Church of Brook Hills on Brook Highland Parkway is open for shelter

The City of Homewood has opened these locations:

  •  1st Baptist Church of Birmingham, 2309 Lakeshore Drive
  • Oakmont United Methodist Church, 914 Oak Grove Road
  • Homewood Recreation Center, 809 Greensprings Hwy.

The City of Vestavia Hills has opened these locations:

  • St. Mark United Methodist Church – 2901 Columbiana Road, Vestavia Hills
  • All Vestavia Hills Fire Stations
  • Vestavia Hills Recreation Center – 1973 Merryvale Road, Vestavia Hills

Fairfield Police Department – 5231 Court B, Fairfield

Gardendale Civic Center – 970 Main Street, Gardendale

Pleasant Ridge – 1348 Hueytown Road, Hueytown

Leeds Civic Center – 1000 Park Drive, Leeds
