Jeffco Schools receiving additional funds

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Jefferson County schools are getting an influx of unexpected cash. Twenty one million dollars will be divided among the school systems. It comes from money left over after the county exited bankruptcy.

The breakdown of funds is as follows (#’s have been rounded):

  • Jefferson County Board of Education: $7.9 million (37%)
  • Bessemer BOE: $840,000 (4%)
  • Birmingham BOE: $7 million (33%)
  • Fairfield BOE: $465,000 (2%)
  • Homewood BOE: $672,000 (3%)
  • Hoover BOE: $1.7 million (8%)
  • Leeds City BOE: $265,000 (1%)
  • Midfield BOE: $240,000 (1%)
  • Mountain Brook City BOE: $865,000 (4%)
  • Tarrant City BOE: $276,000 (1%)
  • Vestavia Hills BOE: $1 million (5%)
