Drive-thru flower stand a hit on Valentine’s Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Valentine’s Day comes around on the same day every year, but somehow some men always seems to forget.

If you’ve ever found yourself in that situation, you can appreciate what Sterling McDevitt does.

McDevitt runs a one-day-only, cash only flower drive-thru in Birmingham.

“I love my job,” he said.

For many, McDevitt is a saving grace.

His first customer of the day bought red roses.

“I said, ‘You want to put them in a vase?’ and he said, ‘No, I don’t need a vase. I’m just going to use the petals,’ and I said, ‘Okay, I don’t want to go there,’” McDevitt explained.

Overall, business is good. The drive-thru is an extension of Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market.

McDevitt says each man has the same struggle on Valentine’s Day: how are they going to keep their significant others happy?

His valentine is Dorothy McDaniel, a woman who is surrounded by beautiful flowers all day long.

So what does she want? McDevitt knows exactly what she desires.

“She wants a good meal and a bottle of wine with an IV,” McDevitt said.

In the end, he’s glad to help other guys make their Valentines happy, but tonight he’ll only be thinking about one.
